Title: New members - introduce yourselves!
Post by: Goaticus on August 20, 2011, 09:54:09 PM
I didn't see an introduce yourself section on the forum so I thought I'd just jump in. My name is Matt and I live in Denver, although not that long ago I lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am an atheist and libertarian and my interests run the gamut from economics, to biology, to mixed martial arts.

Thanks guys, I should have done this a long time ago, but I just busted both my shoulders so I can now catch up on my internet. I apologize in advance if any of my posts get inspired by vicodin.

I've been there, Goaticus. I'm sure your posts will still be more rational and intelligible than your average moon hoaxer!

The moon landings were a conspiracy so that evil corporations could monopolize all that green cheese up there.

No, nononononono. It was an evil ancient conspiracy spanning generations. The truth is, the moon was the site of the first interstellar karate tournament where Stephen Seagal saved the world by challenging the Moonians' greatest warrior to a one on one match to the death.

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see another martial arts fan around here. :-P

I wonder if Gorilla199's reptilian tares have the same joints as a normal human, or if I would have to modify my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu if I saw one of them with their free mason iconography.

Random question, the flag that they left on the moon when they visited, correct me if I'm wrong but it's still there and can be seen by telescope can't it?  How do the moon hoaxers explain that?

Not from Earth, but the LRO picked it up, and I think Caguya did too. You can't actually see the flag because it's standing vertical, but you can see its shadow clearly.

Hoaxers say they doctored the photos, of course. They wouldn't believe even if you took them to the moon and showed you the flag directly!

Of more import than the flag is the mirrors that we put up there and have been bouncing lasers off of to tell the distance of the moon to the Earth.

It's been recommended by a couple of new members that we have a thread specifically so we all can introduce ourselves and get to know each other, so here it is!

I think y'all know me already.  ;D

I've become a regular poster here, but sure, I'll make a proper introduction.

My name is Dave Turcotte (pronounced Ter-kot, you have no idea how many mispronunciations I've heard of that name,) but you can call me D.

I'm a libertarian atheist who enjoys video games, pro wrestling, and I'm also a music enthusiast.

My youtube channel is IronFury (http://www.youtube.com/user/IronFury). My channel primarily focuses on video games and I do my own take on Let's Plays.

well, I think it's best to introduce myself now:

my name is Ibrahim (ib-brah-heem), you can call me Abe.

I am a senior undergraduate student and Colorado state university (Fort Collins), Geology major, concentrating in Paleontology and (recently) sedimentology. I enjoy fossils, rocks, video games, cracking messed up jokes (I'll try not to do so here), and anything Seven Years War. and I swear by the rejuvenating powers of watching the Spoony one's reviews.  :P

I'm a Libertarian, though I'm not an Atheist. I guess that makes me the weirdo here  ;)

I'm Lord T Hawkeye, I'm an atheist and an anarcho-capitalist which does mean I'm philosophically a libertarian.

I have a youtube channel where I talk about politics and philosophy while playing my favorite games.

Hm...I joined here April 2009, and even then I was a bit surprised to see this board didn't have one of these.  Oh well, better late than never. :P

Just call me Surhot if you don't want to spell out the insanity that is my full username here. :P  Yes, I did make it that long on purpose.  I made it out of a bunch of words from a random word generator, thinking it would be harder to remember, and thus, harder to hack into my account.

Like Hawkeye, I'm also an atheist and anarcho-capitalist, thus also making me philosophically a libertarian (small L, obviously).

I have a YouTube channel of user/vspqbd (lower case, not upper case folks :P ) where I display channels I like, only friend people I have had at least *some* interaction with and like (read:  no friend4friend or sub4sub; yes, I get those a LOT).

And..um..I guess if you want to know more, send me a PM.

Darn me why didn't I see this thread.

I'm Anpanman with a head made out of anpan bread and I save the world from Bacteriaman and I doesn't afraid of anything. If you are fatigued and have sustained many battle wounds I will give you a piece of my head which has the effect of healing you and will give you sustenance.

Due to scientific advancement my job of fighting Bacteriaman have been outsourced to soap and hand sanitizers (as red beans aren't exactly very good disinfectants) which led me to a spiraling depression and drug addiction. My friends with nowhere else to go have given up and become food for the hungry masses (may Shokupanman and Currybreadman rest in peace). My father is now a full-time chef at Humpty's and the rest of my friends have left me due to my self-destructive behaviors. The current Anpanman you see now on TV is a replacement and a disguise to cover up what has really happened.

But that's all in the past as I finished rehab and now I am free from drugs for about a year. I am now recruiting new members to fight this system brought on by Capitalismman and Outsourcing-chan and I thought this would be a great place to start.
In all seriousness I'm just a kid who is attending community college to upgrade high school subjects because I did fuck all. With my marks I could get into a trade school or a decent college but I'd much rather go to a university (hopefully a prestigious one). Of course I have a dark sense of humor and my jokes (if you can call it that) are crude and sarcastic (I wouldn't be surprised at all if one day I said something stupid by accident and got banned from this forum). I joined this forum in hopes of learning a few things about economics as I feel that libertarianism makes the most sense to me but I don't have the know-how to go up against the masses of social democrats that have permeated throughout. In real life I am the most vapid and introverted person you will ever meet unless I'm drunk. I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD and I've been described as artistic and could-be-smart-but-you're-lazy-as-shit type.
Thanks. I'm sitll tyring to convince my (rather fiscally conservative) father about a few things. Namely that  "public goods" are not needed in the way they are being presented. that roads and other such things do not necessarily have to be provided by the state.

Greetings everypony! I'm BlameThe1st. But you can call me Blame. Or pony boy!

I'm a friend of LordTHawkeye and have been listening to the Bogosity Podcast for a long time. So I decided to join the Bogosity Forum.

I'm a graduate in English and a minor in journalism. I do most of my musings on my blog (http://blamethe1st.blogspot.com/) and deviantART account (http://blamethe1st.deviantart.com/), though you can occasionally find me on Twitter (https://twitter.com/BlameThe1st) and Tumblr (http://blamethe1st.tumblr.com/).

I'm a libertarian, Christian, and Brony. I believe in life, liberty, and ponies! I'm anti-state, anti-war, pro-market, pro-Christian, and pro-pony.

I know I'm probably the only Christian on this board of atheists, but as a libertarian, I think we can all agree, regardless of religious belief, that the state sucks and that the only acceptable society is a voluntary one.

I recognize no sovereign but God, no king but Jesus, and no princess but Celestia. And Luna. And Cadance. And Twilight Sparkle. (Twilight is best pony!)

Salutations, everyone. I am TheFaceOfEvil but just call me Sarah if you wish. It sounds a lot sweeter anyway.

I was pointed in the direction of this site by my longtime boyfriend, who goes by Tnu around these parts. I'm honestly not quite sure what to make of what I have seen so far, but I am immensely intrigued nonetheless. At the moment, I do not adhere to any political philosophy but I am making the effort to understand his position as an anarchist.  As far as religion goes, I consider myself an agnostic atheist.

I am a student of the fine arts at the moment contemplating on switching my majors. I am a fan of Doctor Who, and take my username from one of my favorite stories "The Face of Evil." I also enjoy Godzilla movies as well as tokusatsu series along the lines of Ultraman. I also enjoy reading comics and hope to someday work on my own stories.

So, uh, hello.

Hi, I used to go by the name FlowCell on YouTube and a Ex_Nehil0 on this forum.

Well, Shane had mentioned me in a post some time ago asking me to come back, and now I have years later.  I've taken a whole new identity online after taking a long time to really figure out who I was and all that.

BTW, Shane, you were right about Popper.  It turns out, I was going down the path of post-modernism and didn't even know it.  I was warping my interpretation of everything philosophical and scientific and now I've come to hate it especially now that its infiltrating and influencing academic thought as we speak.  Post-modernism has turned the social sciences into pseudoscientific rubbish and feminists into judgmental moralizers (as if their social Marxism was bad enough), but now its going after the hard sciences, too.  Why is it so hard for people to understand that feelings are dictated by reality, rather then reality being dictated by one's feelings?

Incidentally, I was wondering if I could have my evil-heterosexual-Christian-white-male-cis-privilege to start new topics restored to this new account.  I'd like to make a topic about Anita Sarkeesian if one hasn't been made already.

The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark is one of my favorite books on critical thinking.  Some of the pop culture references are a bit out of date (it mentions Beavis and Butthead), but that shouldn't be a reason not to pick up this gem of a book.

A good summary of the book is the Baloney Detection Kit featured on Operation Clambaked: http://www.xenu.net/archive/baloney_detection.html

You can get the book on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Demon-Haunted-World-Science-Candle/dp/0345409469

Hello Bogosity forums!

Resident of the DFW area and got a wild do' (well until I had it cut yesterday, but I'll get it back).

Also I wanted nominate this gal for Biggest Bogon Emitter, but for some reason I couldn't start a new topic:

Yeah, you have to have 5 posts to start a new topic now. Sorry, but it was the only way to cut the spam out.

Hi I'm BreadGod. I first discovered Shane Killian's work way back in 2008. I was a young atheist liberal back then, so I loved his bogosity videos, but I hated his economic videos. The whole "libertarianism" thing was so strange and foreign to me then. In 2012, I became an anarcho-capitalist and rediscovered Shane's work. I love it now. Then, on December 6, 2013, I decided to get off my lazy ass and join the Bogosity forums.

Greetings, folks of Bogosity!

My name here is ReVoluntary Virginian, but if real names are a must, you can also call me Sam. The inspiration of my screen name comes from me making a lame pun on "revolutionary" (instead of being "revolutionary", I'm "ReVoluntary", considering part of my political philosophy is inspired by voluntaryism), being based in the state of Virginia, specifically in the small town of Glen Allen about more or less 20 miles northwest of Richmond and a silly attempt to make the pun worthy short form name of "ReVolVir".

I've actually been a long time lurker/fan and equally long time member, but have waited until now to actually introduce myself and start posting. I blame it on nothing more than pure, unadulterated, stone cold (BAH GAWD /obscure wrestling reference) laziness.

Politically speaking, as mentioned above, my views are partially inspired by voluntaryism, although I wouldn't necessary call myself a full blown voluntaryist. I tend to just prefer the catch-all, umbrella term of "libertarian" to describe myself, as I do believe in almost all the same things your average libertarian/anarcho-capitalist/voluntaryist believes in as they stand.

Religiously, I used to call myself a big time atheist, but these days that's not really the case. I'd consider myself just simply nonreligious and probably have a less hostile view on religion than most. Besides, statism is by far a bigger threat to freedom than any group of religious whackos can ever be.

As far as miscellaneous interests are concerned, I'm a big time video gamer, a pro wrestling fan (yep, another one of those!), a heavy metal fanatic, have a great interest in foreign cultures especially those from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus region and East Asia, a vested interest in comedy, humor and horror of all sorts, love to do writing and lots of other things.

I think that is long enough of an introduction. This tends to happen a lot when introducing myself...

Anyway, here I am at this great little liberty-minded forum. This ought to be a bundle of fun!

Happy to find a forum for sane libertarian skeptics. I'm tired of non-democrat skeptics being treated as non-entities. Keep it up!

Hi there !

My name is Thibault, I come from France and have been watching Shane's videos for a few years now. Shane is almost entirely responsible for my education about libertarianism, but I was considering myself a skeptic long before that and was kind of happy to find some new grounds on which I could reflect about politics (I've been antagonizing the politics of my country and the people invested in it for a very long time now, relatively to my age, which is only 31 after all ...).
I took another step and finally decided to register here to be able to engage with like minded people, of which I cruelly lack in my life (There are none :).

I sometimes need to use a dictionnary to speak in english, and might use wierdly constructed sentences from time to time, but I mostly do just fine. I do a lot of typing mistakes though. I proof read my posts, but some of them sometimes slip past my best efforts.

Here we go.

P.S.: It's my second account. I couldn't recieve the confirmation email  with the first adress I used which is my primary. I used a junk email adress for this one and it worked, but I still want to switch to my primary adress to see if it could work in other instances. The thing is, I can't since the other account already uses it. Is there a solution to my problem? Thanks.

Hello, I just joined, and also just started using lastpass.

I've hit a conundrum: Do you use lastpass for your email that is the recovery email for your lastpass?

That can be quite the Catch-22: If you need to recover your LastPass account, you do it with the recovery email. But in order to log in to your recovery email, you need to get into your LastPass account.

I generated the email password with LastPass, then printed it out and stored it in a safe place. You can also have LastPass print out some one-time passwords and store there somewhere safe.

This is something I feel us security geeks have really failed people on: telling people not to write down passwords. What we MEANT was, don't write down passwords and stick them to the monitor or under the keyboard. But you have somewhere all your important papers are kept: birth certificate, social security card, etc. We're actually good at securing bits of paper when we know they need to be secured. Do that with your LastPass master password, your recovery email password, and other important data. I printed out my Google password since I need that to get into my Android phones. They're all locked away securely if I ever need them.

Welcome to the forum!
