General Discussion / Ken Ham is an arrogant dick
August 31, 2009, 09:03:26 PM
From here:
Quote from: Ken HamWe were able to visit a Buddhist Temple. I took photographs of a couple of their "gods"—I notice they were not very powerful, as they couldn't even get out past the netting wire that "protected" them! It was so sad to see people praying to the "god" behind the curtain—what a reminder they need the gospel to free them from the bondage of this false religion that gives them no hope for the future!

Need I point out the irony in this?

General Discussion / My cookies don’t work
August 30, 2009, 06:19:28 PM
Maybe you guys can help me. My cookies don't seem to work anymore. Every time I restart the computer I have to re-login everywhere. I had this problem before and the only way to solve it I could find was to format the hard drive. Any idea what that might be?

General Discussion / I’m on Twitter now
August 27, 2009, 11:11:18 PM
Yes, I finally gave in and joined the latest Internet fad. However, I am looking for followers now so it won't be for naught, so if you, too, have a Twitter account and want to read my irregular mental ejaculations, join my still miniscule group of followers and worship me every Sunday. You can find me here: http://twitter.com/TomSFox

Also, am I wrong or have I been up-voted since last time I was here? Why?

General Discussion / What time is it?
July 18, 2009, 09:23:27 PM
Here is a little brainteaser for you. Imagine it is 12 o'clock. But your watch says it is 12:05. Is it going slow or fast?

YouTube hasn't been working for me the last couple of days, but people still somehow send me messages.

It's a common misconception, but this comment takes it to a new extreme:

Quote from: Captain Art GriegoBe sure to bring your Bible and pray during the flight. Air travel is exceedingly dangerous these days, just look at all the crashes. In reality, we pilots don't really know what keeps a plane from dropping out of the sky like a stone. Sure, we have aerodynamic flight theory training in flight school, but that's JUST A THEORY. I've often been severely shaken by the thought that pilots don't really know why the plane stays in the air.

Yeah, apparently, mechanics just throw parts together at random until they get something that flies.

I might make myself unpopular by this, but I just have to let it out.
I don't understand why Penny Arcade is so hugely popular.
Let's take this strip, for example.
Could anyone explain to me what's supposed to be funny about it? Or at least what the heck it is about? (No, this is not taken out of a storyline, it's a stand-alone strip.)

General Discussion / You know what pisses me off?
July 02, 2009, 05:22:52 PM
Ad banners that make sounds when you mouse over them! What the fuck? Right now, there is this ,,Death Test" ad everywhere, and whenever I move the mouse, I am bound to hit at least on of them and then it makes this annoying laughter sound! Why do these sounds always have to be so annoying? And what right do they have to play sounds on my computer without me wanting it?

And they actually have the gall to put up this billboard after this happened?

General Discussion / Wannabe experts
May 22, 2009, 02:58:23 PM
You know what pisses me off? People who have heard a falsehood they like and spread it with arrogant pseudo-authority. For example, there are lots of people who wrongly insist that Kennedy flubbed his speech and accidentally called himself a jelly-doughnut, even after being corrected by actual Germans. They are like little creationists. They speak with imaginary authority about things they know nothing and don't really want to learn anything about.

What can be done about them?

General Discussion / Spock fails logic
May 22, 2009, 05:07:54 AM
So I was watching the new Star Trek movie yesterday, and at one point Spock repeated that stupid Sherlock Holmes quote: ,,When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

Argh, why do they have to make a symbol of logic commit such a blatant logical fallacy?

Since creationists reject that species change, they are forced to believe that all species that have ever existed must have lived together at some point in time. That would have been awfully cramped, wouldn't it? Does anyone know whether they have a rationalization for this? Do they just think god made up and created some new species after too many of the old ones died out?

I saw this and had to think of the Law of Attraction (it also reminds me of creationists).

General Discussion / New Simpsons Intro
February 21, 2009, 02:33:15 PM
[yt]qZGz1Ajg7QU[/yt]

Does anyone else get the feeling that recently they just try to stretch the intros as long as possible so that they don't have to do as much work on the actual episodes?

By the way, the Fox channel censor their comments.
